Dig in a Little Deeper

Ginger has a long history of use in Asian, Indian, and Arabic herbal traditions. In China, ginger has been used to help with digestion and stomach upset, diarrhea, and nausea. Traditional Ayurvedic texts recommend ginger for therapeutic use for joint pain, motion sickness, and for clearing microcirculatory channels to facilitate better absorption of nutrients and better elimination of waste products by the body.

Ginger has been clinically shown to help prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness and seasickness. In Western herbal medicine, it is also used to help relieve digestive upset and disturbances including lack of appetite, nausea, digestive spasms, indigestion and upset stomach.

Studies suggest that taking 1g of ginger daily may help reduce nausea and vomiting in pregnant women when used for short periods (no longer than four days). Several studies have found that ginger is better than a placebo in relieving morning sickness.
